Regional Inequities
“We are the least funded area of the state by almost every measure. I see the Governor’s Council role as an opportunity to fight for equitable treatment here in Western Massachusetts – that means advocating for the appointment of Western Massachusetts residents, and fighting for funding in our region more broadly. The fact of the matter is that our region needs a strong voice on the Council advocating for Western Massachusetts, and I know I can deliver on that.”
Judicial Temperament
“As a member of the Governor’s Council I would ensure that appointees have the proper temperament and background. To be an effective member of government, whether that be in the judiciary or otherwise, I have learned that you need two skills above all others – first, you need to have the experience to do the job, and second you need to have the humility and understanding to work with people. These are the qualities I would look for in a judge or other appointee.”
Diversity
“Fighting for equality on the Governor’s Council is about more than regional representation, it is also about fighting for representation for diverse backgrounds, especially when it comes to gender and race. I feel strongly that the Governor’s Council must play a lead role in diversifying our government and judiciary. We need to build a pipeline for under-served and underrepresented populations in order to put them in a position to succeed and seek these important roles. That is why I am committed to using the Governor’s Council position as a platform to create better pipelines to get more women and people of color into the appointment process.”
